he 2014 MAMA Artist of the Year winner, Davido, will
be performing at the forthcoming fifth MTV Africa Music Awards. The Nigerian pop star will join compatriot Yemi Alade as well as South Africans Bucie and Cassper Nyovest, and Tanzanian Diamond Platnumz at the award ceremony in Durban, South Africa come 18 July.
n its usual tradition, the award ceremony, which holds at the Durban International Convention Centre, Durban, will welcome an American star. For this edition, that spot will be filled by R&B star Ne-Yo, who became the second R&B male singer to have six consecutive top 10 albums in the US following the release of ‘Non-Fiction’ earlier this year.
Last year, Davido and Tanzanian crooner Diamond Platnumz performed their collaborative hit ‘My Number One: Remix’ on the MAMA stage. While no mention has been made of a possible collaboration at this year’s event, both are competing in the Best Male category. Davido won the category at the 2014 event and will be hoping for more of same. The other performers, Yemi Alade, Bucie and Casper Nyovest, are newcomers to MAMA.
Ms Alade and Bucie feature in the Best Female category. And rapper Cassper Nyovest is up for three awards: Song of the Year, Best New Act Transformed by Absolut and Best Hip Hop.
